What Is the TOEFL iBT Test?
The TOEFL iBT test measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. it evaluates how well you combine your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks.
How to prepare for the test
I use the latest materials in the market published by ETS – ETS, TOEFL iBT official Guide 5th edition; ETS official TOEFL iBT 1st Volume; ETS Official iBT Volume 2 – and Barron Official TOEFL study Guide in order to comprehensively develop the required academic skills to achieve the scores needed. These Materials are available on ETS.org and amazon.com and can cost more than $800, but I do provide these study materials to my students for free.
In the Reading Section, we enrich vocabulary and build strong Reading Comprehension skills in Natural Science, Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts. The Academic Skills required for Reading Section include: Critical reading, Critical thinking, Critical reasoning and analysis, Categorization, Summarization, Paraphrasing, inference and Pragmatisms.
Listening Section does need a great note taking sills, but otherwise does not involve complex academic skills. Even though most students face serious challenges in the listening section, but it is easy to develop a strong listening comprehension skills with some simple strategies and intense practice.
The Speaking Section includes integrated and independent academic speaking, and requires a great deal of academic skills and strategies. We develop reading and listening Comprehension skills, as wells as categorizing, summarizing, paraphrasing and synthesizing in the speaking section.
The Writing Section is the most challenging and complex section for most of the students, since it requires strong summarizing and synthesizing skills in the integrated academic writing or task one. We develop a powerful reading and listening Comprehension skills, as wells as categorizing, summarizing, paraphrasing and synthesizing for the integrated version. I have developed a very special methodology for teaching the Integrate science essay or task one which helps my students to develop very strong writing skills in writing integrated essays.
The independent academic writing or Task 2 requires rich ideas and follows the basic standard of academic essay structure: however, I ask my students to operate out of the box and not necessary following the academic standards, for a true literary work and high score.
